PATHWAY DIVERGENCE

THE INTERROGATION
After Connor failed to temper the stress level of the android he was interrogating said android began to "self-destruct" by slamming its head against the table. Gavin, alongside PO Chris Miller and Lt. Hank Anderson, rushed into the room to intervene. Gavin ordered Chris to stop the android though that was a failed endeavor from the get-go and resulted in the continuous interference from Connor. Due to the chaos and unfortunate set of circumstances, the self-destructing android managed to steal Chris' gun and violently deactivate Connor before turning the gun on itself.

WAITING FOR HANK
Gavin spent a span of time inside the BREAK ROOM conversing with PO Tina Chen, vigorously retelling the events of THE INTERROGATION and presumably the aftermath. They are not interrupted by Connor who has arrived looking for Hank Anderson thus having no interaction between the two of them during this chapter despite him studiously ignoring the android when Gavin returns to his desk to goof off on his phone until Chris Miller slides over on his chair to interact with Gavin.

THE EDEN CLUB
Gavin, and PO Chris Miller, are the first responders to the supposed MURDER of a client. Gavin is resentful of having to turn the case over to Hank Anderson, whom he holds in very low regard due to the man's alcoholism (which Gavin associates with incompetence and negligence of Hank's duties and responsibilities which, in turn, puts the officers at Central at risk), and Connor, and makes a shitty joke about the decedent and a petty, shitty jibe at Hank (and Connor) before leaving to return, presumably, to other cases/scenes.

LAST CHANCE, CONNOR
Gavin follows Connor, who he believes is acting suspiciously, into the corridor leading to the EVIDENCE LOCKER, he demands to know what the android is doing. He receives the LOW PROFILE/CALM response from Connor to which he makes another shitty comment about androids ending up set on fire, he leaves the corridor and has no other interaction with Connor (presumably) for the remainder of the game.

MUN INTERPRETATION
These choices are personal and any observations/actions/etc that stems from them are at the mun's discretion as they play Gavin. This means that a large majority of how Gavin will be played is interpretive because, frankly, Gavin isn't given much of a personality outside of "2D situational antagonist to PLAYER" and that's boring AF. So the mun will be working to flesh Gavin out and making him into an actual person.

Personality:
Gavin Reed, to put it simply, is an asshole. He's belligerent, argumentative, stubborn to a fault, and not afraid to throw hands should words fail to get his point across. He's also been called ruthlessly ambitious and arrogant and he won't deny it. He has worked his damn ass off practically all his life to get where he is and he's not going to apologize for how he's managed to do it.

However, that's not all he is. There's insecurity, a softness he keeps well hidden, not to be revealed unless someone happens to gain his trust. That doesn't happen often and only if that person is very determined to work their way passed his prickly, standoffish attitude. To say that he doesn't have many friends would be an understatement.

He also doesn't have a very forgiving attitude or patience for those that he deems to be incompetent, undeserving of their positions, and/or unduly confrontational. It is mostly directed at the androids that have replaced hardworking human workers (most notably in law enforcement) and his shift's Lieutenant (Hank Anderson) who is coasting on the goodwill and friendship of their Captain (Jeffery Folwer) to keep his position. He feels justified in his treatment of and has no respect for any of these entities, often going out of his way to let his dislike be known.

In special regard to his dislike towards Lieutenant Anderson, Gavin loathes how far the man has fallen. He understands, completely, how grief can tear a person apart and turn them into shadows of their former selves and he had sympathy for the Lieutenant's plight. The man was dealt a rough hand and lost himself... but he had a responsibility to the men and women that worked under him, the ones putting their lives on the line to keep their part of Detroit safe. Didn't, and doesn't, seem like that mattered to Anderson. Nothing did except the bottom of the next bottle. What once was a man that Gavin both envied and looked up to was now nothing more than a belligerent drunk that came into work either still drunk or hungover if he managed to come in at all, and didn't give a shit about doing his damn job. Gavin hates how the rest of the department has to scramble to cover his ass while the man does nothing but wallow in guilt and booze. It's disgusting and Gavin can't stand it.

Gavin is a very private person but it is very obvious that his life revolves around his work. Because of this, he does not have a significant other but rather a string of one-night-stands or weekend booty calls that scratch an itch. It's not very fulfilling but he has yet to find anyone that understands that his work comes first so rather than trying and failing he's simply accepted that this occasional hookup or three is as good as it gets.

Powers and Abilities:
◄Observational Skills - Gavin has always been an observant individual but has been trained to focus on detail to a greater degree due to his time in both the Police Academy as well as his time spent on the job (walking the beat then moving to detective status).

◄Firearms Training - Gavin has been trained in a number of police issue firearms including several high caliber weapons usually found in the care of specialized task forces (such as SWAT) as well as several explosive devices.

◄Hand to Hand Combat - All officers are offered mandatory courses in hand-to-hand during their Academy training to help them better subdue suspects and deescalate physical altercations. Gavin has further supplemented this with lessons in both boxing and krav maga.

◄Interacting with Children/Young Adults - Though seen as a complete bastard somewhat confrontational individual with the attitude to match towards adults, Gavin is far more gentle and understanding with children. It helps that he treats them as individuals and respects their choices and they recognize that and trust him more readily than other adults. He likes their bald-faced, sometimes brutal honesty.

◄Interrogation/Questioning Suspects/Witnesses - Despite some describing him as hotheaded, Gavin is damn good at his job and is proficient in interrogating suspects and questioning witnesses; his gruff, tenacious, no bullshit type attitude helps him bulldog confessions/answers out of them.

◄Good with animals - Gavin was one of those “all animals are good animals and therefore must be pet” types as a kid and very little has changed. He much prefers cats but Gavin will absolutely stop to pet anything that allows him to, including large lizards and horses. Insects and Spiders are a whole other kettle of fish and he’d prefer them to be in cages or well away from him, thank you.

OTHER
Due to the nature of the game in which Gavin is from (Detroit: Become Human) there are a lot of different choices and routes characters can take and this can/does affect how not only Gavin himself but also the other characters within the game have/haven't interacted. An example of these differences can be found in possible interactions Gavin has with Connor in the BREAK ROOM during WAITING FOR HANK.

Essentially, this means that there might be a lot of diverging canons for DBH characters and because of this it's best to speak with [the mun] if your character is from DBH so that we're on the same page or, at least, have a general idea of where our characters stand on the interaction field.

TENTATIVE LA CLAIM

JON BERNTHAL

I say "tentative" because while the MOCAP and voice for Gavin was done by Neil Newbon he is not the face model. Rather the face was sculpted into a new configuration to put distance between Elijah Kamski (who he MOCAPPED, face-modeled for, and voices). This means that Gavin doesn't have a face model at all so claiming NEIL NEWBON is not only inaccurate but ill-fitting for a number of reasons which forces me to try to match a face with my character...and that's not easy. So Jon is a preliminary choice for the moment and may/may not change as Gavin's played.

I also don't much care to actually have a LA PB for Gavin because the game provides me (and others) with plenty of visuals to work with. So, for the most part, I'll be using in-game visuals to represent Gavin.

EVERYTHING ELSE

Gavin's a new-ish voice for me so I'm trying to hammer everything out as I go along. I may misstep or diverge from certain canons, or even try to rework this trash cat into a three-dimensional human being that makes SENSE which is the true dream.
